Me and the lion cub

what a day this was. my 4th grade teacher owned something like a petting zoo, where animals would come to her prior to going to a zoo..... so one day on a class fieldtrip, we got to go to her farm/house and meet tons of animals, including a black bear cub, llamas and this beautiful animal that you see here.

this lion cub was something else. all of us students had to stand in line if we wanted to get our picture made w/ her.... and, believe me, i was soo excited.

before me, everyone had such an easy time.... the cub would sit there patiently, letting each one of them, come up, sit down and get a picture.....

but no... not me. i guess she had had her fill.... for when i arrived, she wanted to get up and play, and wanted nothing to do w/ having me hold her in a sitting position. it took everything i had to hold that cat down. she was strong! and sassy... and seeing that i adored animals back then... well, i was thrilled beyond belief to be sitting there w/ her!! :)

these are such beautiful animals.... definitely would NEVER work as a pet.... but to be able to sit next to a big cat, even as a cub.... well, it's a memory that will always live w/ me....

happy day everyone...

When i was in moscow, i saw lion cub in a mall, with whom you could have a picture, but poor cat was injected with smth, i think, that was so passive and sleepy. Poor little thing.

I didnt take a pic because 1. i was afraid (i even afraid of plain cats) 2. didnt want to support their business when they make animals suffer :(

But the cat in a pic, looks just fine. You are brave!!! Respect!!!

jahooni, i'll give the ones of you only... but not of me and you. i'll make you copies for your bday... which... is coming up VERY SOON!

puppy, no, this cub wasn't drugged at all. the teacher wouldn't even let us tough the black bear cub.. we could get close to the llamas or the camels, because they'd come up to see us... but the camels spit and i was afraid to get to close to them. i'd NEVER support someone in a mall w/ an animal like that. never. that means they have the animal illegally, more than likely. the cat never tried to bite me. she was fussy... but only wanted to go to this other person that was handling her. i didn't really even get the chance to rub the cat. i was so busy just trying to hold on.
i also got to pet tiger cubs... they were at the dallas state fair. it was a group of ppl traveling w/ the animals to teach ppl about big cats, their natural habitat and such. they had the cubs in the back and it came up to the open area... aaahhh, so soft!

munther, she was just tired of being bothered w/, i think. i'm just glad i had the chance to touch her. and thankfully... she didn't attach me or anything.. i think i would have died!!! ;)

Brave girl! Was the lion cub declawed?

I remember going out to PE class in high school one morning and suddenly hearing a bone-chilling yowl that froze me in my tracks. I looked over at one of the houses bordering the campus and saw that they had a cougar (a.k.a. mountain lion) in a cage. It eyed me balefully and then yowled again (just like they always did on TV! Imagine that!). I felt sorry for the poor animal, especially since the cage seemed so small for it, but I wasn't about to go argue about letting it go!

There's a program started on our TV this week - things to do before you die - and of course one of the things is to pat lions or tigers. Yeah, I'd like to do that too.

moody, you know, i don't know if the cub was declawed or not. in looking at the pic, it's not clear whether or not it is.

well.. just lost my post.. so here it is again...

moody, i tried looking at the pic closely to see if the cub was declawed but i can't tell. if you look, you'll see a chain around it's neck and going off to the right. there was someone sitting there w/ us children and i'm assuming that it was the handler.

wendy, i love these type of lists... one thing i'd like to do is swim w/ dolphins, go on a safari... it was really nice to have a chance to sit w/ a cub like this. i don't remember what it felt like.. but i remember how fussy it was and how i just wished that it didn't get up before they took the picture.

gazza, i have pics of me when i was really little and in one i'm holding a cat and in the other i'm sitting down by a dog. i can remember a love for cats from long back. but i'm sure sitting and petting this animal reinforced that love inside of me...

ammar, the cub didn't hurt anyone. she was wanting to play more than anything. i think schools all over the world should introduce children to animals when they're young. teach them, let them get up close... it's the only way to prevent the abuse and hopefully preserve some wildlife for later generations. i wish they did stuff like this here. but.. in saying this, i hope w/ everything inside of me that they don't bring a zoo to bahrain that holds big cats. or if they do, that the cages/areas are huge. it's not right to keep big cats in small areas... i think that stuff like this is what causes animals to attach. that constant wanting to be free.

nabeel, i love small cats too. i've always found kittens in felines to be adorable. i can't imagine having one of these for a pet... but they so remind me of my cats at home. altho their purrs are a lot louder! ;) and i'm sure their teeth hurt a bit more too.
