Mr. Henry

Looks like we'll be making another vet visit tomorrow. Henry is still sick, it seems. For the last 4 days, he doesn't want to be walked and refuses to go anywhere... staying, mostly, under the bed all day. Tonight he's next to me on the sofa, but asleep. He's not eating really.. had a little of the cat's food tonight, which isn't great, but it's better than nothing.

Yesterday he threw up everything, including his water. Day before was another throw up day... but got meds from the vet today that will reduce the acidity in his tummy and, hopefully, help him keep food down.

They're concerned that his kidneys may be starting to fail... especially w/ him throwing up, and seeing that he's sleeping all the time and his spirit is almost gone, they want to do a blood work-up just to make sure.

Poor guy... for a bit there I thought he was getting better and maybe he will... just think it's gonna be a long road. My hope is that he doesn't have to take any more of the tick fever med because I wont be here. Worried enough about him being here during the day by himself... but that's a good month 1/2 or more... so maybe he'll be on the road to recovery by then.

So sorry to hear this.
I hope you can get him on the mend before you go to the US. Poor thing.

chief rock chef, that's what i'm hoping... very worried about it. did some research online and found some recipes for dogs w/ high kidney counts. we've been feeding him this w/ omega 3's and vitamin a, d, & e for the last two days. it's a low protein meal and he seems to like it. i just hope he doesn't get bored. his kidney levels are supposed to be between 7-25 and his are 172.

the vet wanted to put him to sleep on saturday, but i couldn't do it. brought him home and hashim disagreed and decided to talk to the vet about what we read and trying it w/ him, and the vet agreed!! :)

So.. here's to praying/hoping that it significantly helps.

Poor Henry! A bug that just won't go away could be something very serious that has yet to really show its ugly head. I wish you all the best.

moody, you know, he had tick fever and the parasites can get into the organs and once that happens, it's difficult for them to recover, if at all. the vet said this is what has happened.. w/ his kidneys.

but.. we're trying a new recipe mix for his food that's very low in protein that is supposed to help combat high numbers in his kidneys.. hopefully this will help/work...

time will tell....

This is upsetting to me, as it makes me so sad to know he isn't feeling good.

Everything that comes out of Lily's body, I am surprised I am not carrying around beekers and test tubes to send to a lab to find out her vitamin levels, I worry over her like a hawk so I appreciate and understand what you are going through.

Just make Hashim swear on your SIL's dead lizards (if a lizard is killed, then maybe it will save a puppy and in this case Henry) that he will give him his medications. Also I was told by the vet that a little pepto doesn't hurt the tummy for a pooch.

Maybe you should get a copy of all his tests and perhaps take them with you to the USA and beg a kind hearted vet for a second opinion of some sort. Smuggle some blood...I don't know...it just makes me sad knowing he still isn't feeling good.

Give him LOTS of hugs and kisses from Aunt Kissy....
