Phew... this song has been plaguing my mind as of late. I swear... tonight putting Naief to sleep, all I could think about was this song. Singing it over and over in my mind... crazy stuff. Every time we get in the car, he immediately wants to hear the CD that has all of these songs and nursery rhymes. I'm glad he likes it soooo much.. but I wish I could keep it outta my head from morning until night! :)

Our cat Frankie (he's the oldest male in our household... about 10 now) has been sick for about 5 mths. I guess about 4 mths ago, we took him to a vet that isn't a favorite of mine - since he doesn't do lab work and believes in methods that I don't agree w/... but since he's inexpensive and huge vet costs are something we can't afford right now... it had to do.
Frankie has been losing weight (not as much then), so I wanted to check and make sure all his organs were working okay and that he wasn't sick from something, thinking that he was having kidney failure or something, and I hoped this vet would be able to help. The only thing he did was squeeze down by Frankie's kidneys, said they were working okay (how he knew is beyond me... and, really, I don't think he knew anything), and said that Frankie seemed to be in good health. Off we go for home w/ a clean bill of health.
Well, I guess about 2 mths ago, I started noticing a big weight difference in Frank. He's lost a lot of weight and has started crying from hunger and wanting to be fed about every 10 mins... I kid you not. Nothing seems to satisfy him. I give him soft food, since he refuses to eat hard food now, but still... he gets finicky and refuses to eat a lot of it. I make him eggs, which he loves, and he gobbles them down. I make him chicken, beef... you name it, I make it for him. Or actually, he eats what we eat. Even still... as soon as he finishes, he's hungry again.
So... I guess about a week ago, I could stand no more of it... and insisted we take him to the other vet here that's more expensive, but good. I've heard a lot of horror stories about her. A friend that no longer lives in Bahrain said she's rude and doesn't care anything about cats... so I was dreading meeting this woman, and wasn't quite sure how she'd respond to Frankie's problem.
We took him in 3 days ago... w/ my thinking that he probably had some sort of worm or was about to die from his kidneys.... actually hubby took him in since he had to be there at 8 in the morn and it was on his way to work. We went that afternoon to pick him up... where we were told that the bill was 73 dinars!! Come to find out.. the appt I made w/ this dr. some number of wks back was being charged to us for missing! I could hardly believe it and when I told the receptionist that if I had known we were going to be charged for a missed appt., I would have come or cancelled ahead of time... not knowing that they charged for such.
She quickly informed me that they have postings in the office that such missed appts are charged.... and then I quickly responded, "how was I supposed to know this since I've never been in this office before.. and if you're going to charge ppl for missed appts., you should tell them that over the telephone". She promptly got a look on her face of total disgust... and informed me that all offices do this... and then I told her once again that I did not know this and should have been told since I've never been in this office. (how was I supposed to know this??? should be standard practice for them to say that to new patients over the phone!! don't ya think??? plus... in the States, I've never heard of a vet charging for missed appts! maybe drs... but never a vet!) She quickly got up and went into the drs. office then came out about 5 mins later and told me that the bill had been reduced to 67... awwww thanks...!!! what a discount!
When we went in w/ the dr., I was pleasantly surprised. She was actually very nice. And... seems that my little Frankie has a thyroid problem!!
She did blood work and he has a hyperthyroid. That's why he's lost so much weight and why he's hungry all the time. Thankfully it hasn't harmed his kidneys or liver. He's healthy, other than this, but has to be on medication for the rest of his life. Right now he's taking 3 tablets a day, but will go back in 3 wks to be re-evaluated and retested and hopefully have his dosage taken down to once a day. This medicine will also help him to gain weight again and cause him not to be hungry all the time. He'll also calm down, his heart rate will decrease (since it's skyrocketing right now) and will hopefully live for many more years... :)
He's a good boy in that he takes his medicine w/out any real problem. Poor little thing. He's been sick so much in his life. I've never told the story about Frankie, but he was a sickly kitten. He almost died when he was just a few wks old... having to constantly be at the vets office for wks on end... then to be taken home for it to reoccur again and be taken back... with it finally getting better only after I got down on my hands and knees and begged God to save him. That afternoon when I went to see him at the vet's office (where he wasn't eating and they had no idea what was wrong w/ him), I stopped at McDonald's and picked up a cheeseburger. When I got there, I took him outta the cage, sat him in my lap and he ate every single bite of that burger!!
From that date forward... he got better and, actually, fully recovered. The vet had no idea what happened and when I told him that I asked God to save him... I think he thought I was just saying that or lying, but I didn't care. :) at least Frankie survived. So... he's a vetern at taking meds and getting through rough times... so I know he'll pull through this... or at least hope w/ everything inside of me.

We've been taking Naief to a great park down close to where Hashim works. He loves it. There's a lot of ppl and a lot of families w/ kids. He loves walking around, talking to ppl and playing. I think he's going to be a little leader... he seems to always take the role of leading during these play times.
He's growing so much. He can chew gum now... which I can hardly believe, and actually gives it to me when he's finished... altho he does swallow it every now and again, but hey... I did that until I was in my teen years and still want to sometimes! ;)
He's starting to talk a little more and ask questions like "what's this". He can run now... and loves to run from me at the mall, laughing while I try to catch him. You wouldn't think that a little one could run so fast... but boy... he does. Or maybe it's because I try to walk and catch him ;) !
I guess that's about it... I miss my mom and would love to go and see her since she's been sick. I miss the States and am running low on some things that I can only get there... :( Makes a good excuse for going, eh?!! :)

run aways and the everdays....
Today while out driving along Budaiya Rd., I was about to go around one of the last roundabouts before Al Osra and who did my wondering eyes see??? Bali, the guy that ran away from my FILs employment! I'm not sure that he saw me... he looked in my direction and turned his head quickly, I thought, but I'm not for sure. I watched him and saw where he was headed.... for I've heard from the woman who works for us that his wife, the girl that worked for us, is working out there. We had been told that he was working in Gudabiaya (sp?), but now, after seeing him, I doubt that.
He was carrying a bag of what looked like groceries and a bundle of flowers. I'd bet they're working for expats, and was told that by our house woman. Me and hubby have decided to do a sting operation this coming Friday. I called him upon seeing Bali - even wanted to turn around and follow him - but was told not to do this. He'd more than likely run upon seeing me and who knows if I'd find out where he's at... and they could run again... so I didn't.
I figure he was coming out of the cold store there at the corner, so we've decided to go there on Friday, early... maybe around 11:15, since they always cook lunch close to noon, and, if we see him, will let him go into the cold store and then try to nab him. I'm sure if we got him, he'd more than likely give up on where he's living, that way we could potentially go and get his wife as well. I have no idea how the family will take it, but I think we have a legal right to get them and take them to the police.
While in California, I learned that Bali is suing my FIL for not giving him pay during the months after he ran away. I find this to be utterly ridiculous. Here he left, upon his own choosing, but expects my FIL to pay for all of those months. He also wants plane tickets to go back, which I know is our responsibility, but feel like we shouldn't have to do. I understand giving ppl rights, but how far does that have to go?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Naief is growing so much. He's now on the verge of walking. He took four steps the other night towards me, but has yet to do it again. I think he could probably do it if he wanted, but I have a feeling that he's still a little scared at this point. He has 14 teeth now. His fang teeth are coming in and, without a doubt, these have been the worst. He ran a fever, had cold symptoms, and was in a lot of pain. Poor little guy, his upper molars and these fang teeth have all been coming in together... I try to imagine what it must feel like, but it's hard. I just know that I hate tooth pain and never hesitate to give him pain meds if he's crying and pulling at his mouth a lot.
He is now riding in his car seat without any big issues. He'll cry here in Bahrain for me to take him out, but while in California, he was a real trooper. I'm glad that we had that opportunity there because it's the thing that got him truly used to it. I think it also helped to get him used to eating in his high chair. He's not crying any longer and has started eating or rather trying to eat with a spoon. He's quite messy - altho he doesn't rub the food all over his face or in his hair (yet) - so I feel pretty lucky. He does like to fling it on the floor, but I read that once they start doing that that it's time to stop eating.
He has also found his screaming voice. He loves to scream in public. Not scream or cry, just yell demands. ;) His usual yelling words are Ma Ma, Ma Ma. We were at Geant the other day and he decided to start doing this while going thru aisles. It embarrasses me somewhat and I'm trying not to let it - always remembering that anyone with children will understand what's happening - but that doesn't stop the stares at times. If they look at me, I just smile. I also read that when they do this - which is usually a phase - to try and play the whisper game. I did this last night and it helped a little, but sometimes he just loves to be the center of attention with all and won't stop until he's had his fill.
We cut his hair a week back. It was filled with curls and most ppl thought he was a girl, so we decided it was time. Didn't cut it too short or leave it too long, just a nice in between. It's cute. Sometimes I put cream in it and do the whole messy hair thing on the top.... it's precious really. He doesn't like it though and will sometimes take his hand and pull at it or cry if I'm spending too long.

Wilson, our cat, is getting along w/ all the cats. It's as though he never left. It took a bit for his sister, our black cat Petunia, to accept him. She'd hiss and growl at him and they may have even fought a little at first, but now she has allowed him back into her life. Maybe she was angry with him... but the other day in the kitchen she was bathing him and it was just so sweet. I'm giving the cats Bach drops in their water to help them all w/ this transition back into the home. I've used it in the past when taming feral cats and it always worked, so I hope that within a month or so, all the cats will be calmer because of his addition again into the family.

We're house sitting this cat for a woman I know. I don't really know her per say, but she used to work for my MIL at the school. She doesn't have any children so this cat, Jack, is like her baby. He's a beautiful white, long haired cat, but he hasn't been neutered. She's been asking for me to let him in the house, but I can't do it. If he feels threatened whatsoever, the likelihood of him spraying our house is high, and I don't wanna smell cat urine all over the place. She's also asked me to have him fixed for her and that she'll pay me in two months, but I'm just really torn with this.
Apparently she's married to a Bahraini man who is fooling around w/ this Moroccan woman and they have 6 kids. He keeps this woman, that I'm cat sitting for, in a flat someplace, but from what I've heard, he didn't pay her rent and she got kicked out. So she's now living w/ friends and looking for a new flat. The last time she came and visited, she hinted on the fact that if she doesn't find another flat, she'll have to get rid of Jack. I know she wants us to take him... I think this is one reason she's pushing the neutering issue... but hubby has given a firm no to this, and I'd rather not add another cat into our furr family. We're keeping him in one of our bathrooms right now and he just cries and such when I feed him and spend time with him - wanting out when I leave - but I just can't let him out in the house. This, in and of itself, makes me want to get him fixed... but if I do it and she doesn't pay, that's another "why did you do that, you knew she wouldn't pay" or "now she wants us to keep the cat... what do we say"... and the possibility of "oh the poor kitty... what if he doesn't find a home" going thru my mind and pretty much beating myself up mentally... so what to do?!!
For now I'm having the house woman clean the bathroom and hubby feed him so that I don't get attached. It's way too easy for my heart to go out and for me to wind up doing what I don't want to do.... and I have to listen to my husband this time.... you know?!! and I don't want another cat really, if the fact be known. We have our hands full now... and if Porsche does wind up coming back... well... you know what I mean.
okay... I'll run... good day my friends.

back and rested
We've been back for a couple of weeks now and finally starting to feel like I'm back in the game. Feel rested and happy... which is always a good thing.
Traveling w/ Naief went well - a lot better than I expected. Had heard a lot of horror stories about traveling w/ children, but didn't experience any of that w/ him. The only probs we had were when we spent the night in London. He couldn't fall asleep for anything and cried most of the night away, but slept well on the flight, so it all worked out okay. Getting him back on the time here was a bit difficult, but he's finally settled in and all is well.
The one big issue when we got home was that the woman we have working for us didn't pay attention to the cats and one of my favorite kitties got out and is gone. I was heart broken for days. When I told her, she blamed Hashim's friend who had been house sitting for us. I don't know who did it, but I think it was probably her, since she's very absent-minded and doesn't pay attention to much that's going on around her. I've been calling Porsche and looking out for her, but still nothing. She was such a sweet girl and I wonder if she's still alive.... because.....
I guess about five months ago, our cat, Wilson, got out thru an open window that the woman left open and didn't come back. I called out to him and nothing. I think I may have even blogged about it... because I think the day he got out, I heard the wild dogs that night and thought that maybe he had been killed and figured I'd never see him again.
Well... the night we came home from the airport, I saw a cat that looked just like Wilson cross the street in front of me and, at that time, I thought it might be Wilson, but then figured it was the outside cat that I take care of that looks just like Wilson, but is called Tigger. Once we got inside the house, I realized that Tigger was inside our house! so it couldn't have been him... but I let go of it and didn't think about it again until a few nights ago.
I was standing at our bedroom window and saw a cat - looking just like Wilson - run up a tree when the neighbors came out of their house. After they left, I called his name and he turned around and looked at me. It was then that I saw the white rings around his eyes and knew it was Wilson. I called his name again and heard him cry back to me... and to hear Wilson cry, well, there is no mistaking him for another because it's such a pathetic little cry! :)
I told Hashim that it was Wilson and went down to the street and over to the neighbors immediately. I walked the front of their house calling to him, but nothing. Then... as I was turning the corner, Hashim said, "look there", and low and behold, it was him crouched down in the middle of the street. I said his name again and he cried and came over to me. I slowly bent down and stroked him... thinking that maybe he'd run since it had been sooooo long... but he didn't. He cried and cried, so I picked him up.
Now... he's back in our cat family and everything is the same as it was before... altho he's much thinner now. It took a day of keeping him in another room for him to calm down a bit, and after letting him out w/ the rest of the cats and fearing that there would be some major cat fights, I'm happy to report that there were none and they've welcomed him home.
It's weird because I didn't take Wilson as a survivor. He was shy and a wimp. I would have never thought he would have been able to go up against the wild cats outside, let alone survive on the streets w/ cars.... something he wasn't used to. But he did!! He has a few scars on his ears, is super thin, but I'm really thrilled to have him home.
This fact helps me to have hope for Porsche. I hope that I see her again and that she makes her way back to our neighborhood and home.
other than this.... the house was a complete and utter mess when we came home. I don't think she had cleaned for weeks - or it smelled that way. She's been cleaning like a mad woman since we came home and since hubby threatened w/ sending her back.... I hope it stays this way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And for missing my family... I do, but I know it won't be long before I see them again. I'm hoping that my sister and mom come for a visit this year of next.... they say they will, but I've heard that before! ;)
I had such a good time in California. I love being there. I love the ocean, the trees, the mountains, the fresh air, the clouds, the rain (altho it rained too much for my blood this time), and I love being around my mom and sister. Naief had such a good time with Katelyn and I miss that every time I look at a picture, but the next time he'll be bigger and will be able to play more, which will make her happier because she won't have to fear that he'll tear up her toys! ;) Even though he didn't break one thing!
anyway... we're going to the Spring Culture event tonight and I'm so looking forward to it. We're taking my husband's mother for her birthday and I hope she likes it as much as I'm sure I will.
Good day all....

gaaawwwd, I hate flies!

What is up w/ the flies in this country? Never have I seen flies that don't go away and aren't afraid of humans.
When I was a young girl, I hated them so much that I would go outside, taking the fly swatter w/ me, and kill as many flies as I could in order to keep them from coming into the house..... yeah, ok... I was young... so bear w/ me here! :) I would spend hours killing them. My mom would always be home and I can remember her telling me on more than one occasion that it wouldn't make a difference, but it never deterred my determination. For I was the Fly Killer and proud of it!!!
Now... living here in Bahrain, I don't think I'd ever be able to swat one of these dang little creatures... they're so fast. Not only that, but they seem to withstand even the hardest swat w/ the hand.... so would they even be affected by the good 'ole swatter?
It's gotten so bad that I can't hardly stand to go outside and sit during the summer. They're always buzzing around me... landing on my clothes, my feet, my face, my hair, my arms... and don't get me started about how they worship the baby! There was one in our bedroom the other day and I couldn't kill it for nothing. Every time I'd turn around, it was on the baby's face. aaarrrrggghhhh... I hate them.
I think my big thing w/ flies is that when I was small, I believed that every time they landed, they were laying eggs - which, as you know, turn into maggots. So... every time I'd see one on a plate, a glass and such, I'd fear that they had contaminated whatever it was and such would have to be thrown away. Well... I'm still not sure about that or about what they're doing and why they feel the need to land on me and the baby or how they're always flying around the table when you're eating and no matter what you do, they won't go AWAY... and what's up w/ them always waxing their little legs.... such vile little creatures!
What's the key to getting rid of these things? They're not afraid, that's for sure. I will say though... I do have a few cats that love to kill and eat them. Our cat Ammie is a skilled fly killer. She eats them right up.... she and Petunia love them... makes me wonder what they taste like... kidding. ;) But I do kinda wonder.
anyway.... at least they don't bite.... but now that I think about it... I think I have been bitten by a few of them outside. I know the horse flies in the States bite big time... and it hurts.... are there horse flies here?

when tragedy strikes
last night, i guess about 11 p.m., i got two calls from my sister. since i had my phone on silent, it took me a bit to call her back. when i did, my BIL answered, sounding very serious and handed the phone to her. when she got on the phone, all i could hear was hysterical cries w/ her saying "he's dead".
i must say, whenever my sister calls and is crying, i immediately become panicked and think of all the worst scenarios, mainly my mother passing away or something serious happening to her.
when she said "he's dead", all i could think was "who".... and i had to get hold of myself and ask "what" so that i could fully understand what she was saying and then she told me thru sobs that her kitten, Greyson, had been killed by a car outside.
instead of being kind, like i should have, i immediately got mad and said, "why did you let him out" and then, "i told you not to let the cats out". she became hysterical and screamed at me and then hung up. i don't blame her.... i should have been totally different w/ her and completely regret how i acted, and have even apologized over and over to her.... but does it really make a difference? for a cat lover and someone who loves animals, and for someone that's been in the same situation, i should have never responded that way. but my pain for her was so severe that i let myself go to anger - because to hear the pain in her cries.... it was too much.
after probably 10 mins., she called me back. she was so upset. i hate to see my sister upset like this. i hate to hear that pain in her voice. she's like me and loves animals so very much. she's a really good furrbaby mamma.... so when something happens to one of her animals, the pain tends to be severe.
i told her how sorry i was for what i said, and that i was so sorry for what happened. instead of hiding my pain, like i usually do, i let myself feel it and cried w/ her.... she told me that Greyson was bad about minding and wouldn't stay inside, and that any time anyone opened the front door, he would dash out faster than you could blink an eye. but, on this morning, his stubborn behavior and feisty personality would prove deadly. it didn't seem to matter how many times she had sprayed water on him.. she even tried spanking him, but nothing worked - nothing would keep him inside that house. he had the type of personality that was bound to get him into trouble....
she got a knock on her door yesterday morning w/ a woman saying, "i think i killed your cat". it happened right in front of their house. i can't imagine leaving the house and being reminded of that.... i have had the same happen to me and each and every time i passed the place, i always imagined my cat getting ran over. it's a horrible feeling... a horrible thought... an unnecessary pain that lives on and on in your mind. through crying, my sister asked me, "why do ppl have to drive so fast down that street". i agree w/ her. one day, it's going to be a child that someone hits and then, maybe, they'll put in speed bumps or do something to stop the crazy driving.
my sis loved this little kitten more than anything. he was only about 7 mths old. he had beautiful dark grey fur... it was long and was the king of his castle, as all the other cats in the household could testify to.... he was a handful... scratching and tearing up some of her best pieces of furniture, trying to bite thru cables in the house, beating up on one of the older cats.... but... when he was sweet, there was nothing like him. he'd fall asleep right on top of you, right next to you... most nights sleeping in bed w/ my sister - under the covers matter of fact. and he loved my mom. when he was a little bitty kitten, he'd sleep w/ her.
my mom loved him just as much. she's in florida right now visiting family and when my sister called to tell her the tragic news, my mom broke down. my sister's daughter, who loves animals, like us, helped her daddy dig a grave for him next to the house and went out and bought flowers for the grave. i talked to her on the phone and she was sad, but seemed to be more upset for her mom.... that's the good thing about children.... the pain is less for them. i can remember getting over things so quickly as a young child. i had so many animals that died when i was young, but it seemed to only take a few hours to get over it... unlike now, when it takes me days and sometimes weeks... and, if the truth be known, i still mourn the death of some of my animals and will dream about them still.
last night, even though i'd try not to think about it, my thoughts kept going to my sister. i felt her pain.... knew how horrible she was feeling... for losing a beloved pet can be one of the hardest things to deal w/.... and i know that pain all too well. my heart weeps w/ her.... i know she loved that cat so much... we'd laugh so many times over the phone about him. my mom would tell me stories about how he would bite little pieces from her hands (not really, but my mom likes to blow up stories a bit)... and my sister still has scratch marks on her hands and arms from him. Greyson was a little hellion... he loved life. he'd run through their house, wouldn't mind anything my sister said... go out back in the yard and chase the other cats and make them all really upset. one of the cats that seemed to really hate him was searching the house for him as i was talking to my sister last night. my sister said she had sniffed his body. i wonder if the cat will mourn his death. i know when our little cat got hit by a car, our kitty, Amie, mourned that little cat for weeks it seemed.
today i wonder about my sister. i'll call her later tonight to see how she's doing. i hate asking because i don't want to bring up the pain... but it won't matter... for no matter if i ask or not, the pain is still there and will be there for a while to come. funny how this type of pain sticks w/ you long after the fact. i still think about all of my cats that have passed. me and hashim had one that got hit by a car... it was the worst feeling and it's something, as a pet lover, that you don't want to ever happen. we've lost another cat since living in bahrain and it was no easier. she suffered for a couple of weeks before passing. we have her buried outside... and i think of her all the time. i still feel pain in my heart for her.... i still miss her... i still love her. that love never dies.
i'm sorry dear sister for your pain. my heart is there for you.... and i only hope the pain is eased quickly.
