cloned meat

Heard this yesterday, not sure if it's a new thing or something that's been around for a bit, but apparently they're starting to put cloned meat into the grocery stores, and from what I understand, it's not labeled as such.

I'm not a huge meat eater, but even if I were, I really don't know how I'd feel about eating cloned meat.... maybe I have already and just didn't know it.

Many of you may see no problem w/ it... meat is meat... but, to me, it just seems... not right.

This whole cloning thing doesn't sit right w/ me. I'm not for it. Don't believe in it.

I can't help but to think, "where does God stand in all of this?", but I'm funny that way.

Also read where they're thinking of approving cloned milk....

Really... I have a big problem with all of this. I wonder if the Arab world will allow this? I hope not! For now... I think I'm gonna stop eating meat here, or go to the Arab market and get my meat!

I'm not sure what you mean by 'cloned' meat. You mean they've made 'twin' animals, or what?

wendy, when i think of cloned, i think of something that has been biologically/genetically grown to be a twin - something that isn't natural.

that sounds freaky. but in the end, its probably not going to have huge labels as such mentioning that its 'cloned', and the people will consume, willingly, unaware...

i too have a serious prob with cloned meat. if they're going to put in on the shelves, at least they need to make it clear to people that it is indeed cloned.

yuk!

I doubt that cloned meat (either from cloned animals or synthetic "flesh" that has been grown in vats) has hit the store shelves yet in any real quantity, and it will probably be a long, long time before it actually comes to represent a significant percentage of supermarket meat. The technology is still in the developmental stage.

In other words, you don't need to start panicking yet.

My feelings are still very mixed on the cloning issue, but I think this kind of technology is inevitable now that the science is both proven and accessible. It's like stem cell research; some countries (like the U.S.) may ban it, but other countries won't, and they'll end up having an advantage because of it, good or bad. People may be opposed to the idea at first, but once it becomes widespread that opposition will likely fade, and people will wonder what the big deal was.

THAT'S what's scary.

Oh, and BTW, they have discovered that cloned animals are NOT identical to their "parents".

Wehn I come to think of it, perhaps it is GM - genetically modified because that's becoming more common now. They are altering the wheat, canola etc.

moody, really? i haven't heard that about them not being identical... that's very interesting.

i'm really not for this. i think the next stage will be cloning ppl. obviously it wont happen here in the States, but i could easily see it in Europe, and i have huge moral issues w/ that.

I think if this is true, two things must happen:
1- A law that forces marketers to label the meat as such.
2- Cloned meat must carry a cheaper price, and thus serve as an alternative to people.

Now with global increase in food prices I think lots of crazy solutions/alternatives might come up.

Like yourself, I'm pro-naturalist. I believe in the natural composition of life, hate to break it. Hate how vegetables and fruits bought from supermarkets tastes. I'd buy my food straight from a farm if I could.
